Mount Pleasant is a lovely little city east of Dallas. Just two hours away, it offers respite from the chaos and noise that is DFW. Don't get me wrong.......there is nothing wrong with DFW. I grew up in the metroplex and I will always have an affinity for it. Sometimes I just need to escape the concrete jungle and hang out in a quieter, less road-rage inducing locale.
The thing that drew me and my family to Mount Pleasant was Bob Sandlin Lake State Park. The lake is reasonably sized with fishing, camping, picnicking, and swimming for those that love the outdoors. There are plenty of decent hotels in the area too for those who don't want to rough it. My family and I stayed at the Hampton Inn and enjoyed their nice sized rooms, indoor pool, and hot breakfast. A short drive from the state park and close to restaurants, pt proved to be a good value for a hard working family as ourselves.
Within the state park is an old cemetery known as the Miller Cemetery, or the Fort Sherman Cemetery. It has a handful of marked graves and many unmarked graves. I can't help but wonder if any of the unmarked graves are native Americans since the area was reportedly inhabited by the Caddo, Choctaw, and Cherokee at one time. It could also be early settlers and residents that simply could not afford grave markers.....who knows? In any case, the history of the area piques my paranormal interest.
My family and I plan to return to the area again and Mount Pleasant could very well become our R&R weekend getaway hotspot. I told my paranormal friends about the state park and the cemetery so I anticipate we will rent out some of the shelters and make a haunted weekend out of it. Oh how I love our paranormal adventures.......
